Description:
ADL5391 uses a new type of multiplier core architecture, which has significantly different characteristics compared with the traditional type. The traditional structure uses a current mode, trans-conducting core, and its X and Y inputs are essentially asymmetrical, resulting in alignment errors in relative amplitude and timing, and problems at high frequencies. The new multiplier core eliminates these alignment errors by providing symmetrical signal paths for the X and Y inputs. The Z input allows the signal to be applied directly to the output. It can be used to eliminate the carrier or apply a static offset voltage.

Fully differential X, Y and Z input interfaces can work within ±2V and can be used in single-ended mode. Users can apply common mode to these inputs to make the internally set VPOS/2 as low as ground. If these inputs are AC coupled, their nominal voltage will be VPOS/2. These input interfaces all have 500Ω input impedance (frequency up to about 700MHz), and it drops to 50Ω at 2GHz. Gain proportional input GADJ, which can be used to fine-tune the unity gain proportional constant (α). The ENBL pin can quickly disable the ADL5391 to standby mode.
