AERMOTOR EM415PRO 6-42V Car Short Open Circuit Detector Automotive Circuit Tester without Oxford Bag
Description:
The EM415PRO detects and alerts you immediately when a circuit is open. You can quickly and easily locate short circuits, open connections, broken wires, current leaks, and even trace wires. It can also help identify intermittent circuit problems by flexing wires or connectors and listening for changes in the receiver tone, allowing for general tracing or precise pinpointing of the problem.
The built-in direction indicator shows the direction of the short, eliminating guesswork. This professional tool works on all types of circuits with voltages between 6 and 42V DC, such as those found in automobiles, trucks, tractors, boats and RVs. Its wide working voltage range makes it highly versatile for various applications.
Features:
* Automotive Short Circuit & Open Circuit Detector: It can be used for cable tracing, locating shorted cables, checking cable breakpoints, and cable identification.
* Tests Without Damaging Insulation: It can check cable break points, locate shorted cables, and identify and trace wires without damaging the insulation.
* Flexible Receiver Probe: The receiver probe is made of bendable steel wire, allowing it to detect cables even in tight and hard-to-reach environments.
* Compact and Lightweight: The compact body makes it easy to carry and convenient to use.
Operating Instructions:
I. Cable Tracking:
1. Switch the transmitter's power switch to the TONE position.
2. Connect the transmitter's black clip to the vehicle battery's positive terminal. Fuse sockets, connectors, etc., are also ideal connection points. Attach the red clip to the cable being traced.
3. Turn the receiver's sensitivity knob clockwise to the middle position. Press and hold the TEST button, place the receiver close to the cable, and move it along the route. When the receiver emits an audio tone, follow the sound to trace the cable.
II. Locating Short-Circuited Cables:
1. Disconnect all loads and power from the circuit under test.
2. Set the transmitter switch to the CONT position. Connect the test leads to the pair of cables or conductors being tested. If the circuit resistance is less than 10kΩ, the green CONT indicator will light. If the green light is on with all loads disconnected, it indicates a short circuit between the tested cables or conductors.
III. Detecting Cable Break Points:
1. Switch the transmitter's power switch to the TONE position.
2. Connect the transmitter's black clip to the ground wire. Fuse sockets, connectors, etc., are also ideal connection points. Attach the red clip to the cable being traced.
3. Power on the receiver and turn the sensitivity knob clockwise to the middle position. Press and hold the TEST button, and slowly sweep the receiver along the cable, conduit, etc. A steady audio tone indicates the cable is intact. If the tone becomes weaker or stops, it means the probe has passed over a damaged section, open circuit, or faulty connection.
4. The point where the tone disappears marks the cable break location.
IV. Cable Identification:
1. Switch the transmitter's power switch to the TONE position.
2. Connect the transmitter's black clip to the vehicle battery's positive terminal. Fuse sockets, connectors, etc., are also ideal connection points. Attach the red clip to the cable being traced.
3. Connect the red clip to one end of the cable to be identified. Scan all suspected cables with the probe. When the receiver's audio tone is loudest near a certain cable, that cable is the one being sought.
Precautions:
* It can only be used for DC voltage; under no circumstances should it be connected to DC voltages exceeding 42V.
* Cannot be used for AC voltage.
* Cannot be used in circuits directly or indirectly connected to AC wiring or any AC power source.
* Do not use with any ignition circuits or components.
* Before using this instrument to test automotive wiring, disconnect any components or subsystems sensitive to voltage or current pulses, such as airbags.
* When disconnecting any automotive part or subsystem, follow the relevant automotive maintenance rules and the requirements in the vehicle maintenance manual.
* Please read the user manual carefully before use.
