Geekworm X1009 PCIe to 5-Port SATA Expansion Board + H500 Heatsink + DC 12V 5A Adapter (US Plug)
Description:
X1009 is a PCIe to 5-Port SATA Expansion Board designed specifically for Raspberry Pi 5. It supports simultaneous connection of five high-capacity SATA storage devices, with SATA 3.0 interface speeds of up to 5Gbps. It provides large storage capacity and high-speed data transmission for your Raspberry Pi 5, fully unlocking the storage potential of Raspberry Pi.
X1009 features a standard 12V DC input jack and includes a high-efficiency DC/DC step-down converter, allowing it to power both the Raspberry Pi 5 and connected PCIe devices.
We have tested 4 x 3.5" HDDs + 1 x 2.5" HDD, and the current required during testing was around 6A.
X1009 is designed for data storage purposes and currently does not support booting from HDD/SSD using existing firmware.
Attention:
* The required current depends on the startup current of the HDDs you use (startup current is higher than operating current). You should check the startup current of your HDDs to determine the maximum current required for the power adapter.
* Even if the X1009's power supply capacity is insufficient, you can still power the HDDs through an external power source.
* Conclusion: The number of HDDs you can use depends on the available power. You may need to try different setups to find what works.
Power Requirements:
When powered via the X1009's DC 12V input, there is no need to power the Raspberry Pi 5 separately.
Recommended Power Specifications:
1 x 3.5" HDD or 1 x 2.5" HDD: ≥ 3A
2 x 3.5" HDDs: ≥ 5A
3 x 3.5" HDDs: ≥ 7A
4 x 3.5" HDDs: ≥ 9A
5 x 3.5" HDDs: ≥ 11A
2 x 2.5" HDDs: ≥ 4A
3 x 2.5" HDDs: ≥ 5A
4 x 2.5" HDDs: ≥ 6A
5 x 2.5" HDDs: ≥ 7A
SATA drives can also be powered by a separate external power supply.
How to calculate the total current required for your drives: Check the label on your HDD/SSD to find the startup current (which is higher than the operating current), then add them together. This total gives you the maximum output current required for your power adapter.
Based on our actual testing, a Geekworm 12V 5A power adapter can support 3-5 x 2.5" SATA SSDs. The final power requirement depends on the specific SSDs/HDDs you use.
